Clydesdale Media Podcast

We catch up with friend of the show Hattie Kanyo.  After doing a series with her from Bali this winter we see how it all pays off with her highest placement going into Semifinals ever.

What is Clydesdale Media Podcast?

We cover the sport of CrossFit from all angles. We talk with athletes, coaches and celebrities that compete and surround in the sport of CrossFit at all levels. We also bring you Breaking News, Human Interest Stories and report on the Methodology of CrossFit. We also use the methodology to make ourselves the fittest we can be.

In the kitchen you decide to

stay that's how it winters

made stick a fork in the hater

what is going on everybody

how can you not be hyped up

after that intro song I was

just gonna say you've been

you've been at work with

that intro man that looked

good yeah I redid all of my

intros to like kind of be

more hyped and it's sick I

really liked it it got me

hyped I was like oh yeah okay yeah yeah

I have all but my weight

loss show has been redone.

I need to redo my weight loss show.

And then I got to create one

for Tristan and I's new show.

Oh, yeah.

I'm loving that.

Yeah.

It's cool kind of like

diving deep into the brain

power of a coach.

Yeah, 100%.

Especially him.

He's so smart.

Sometimes I'm like,

I don't know what you're talking about,

but I know you know what

you're talking about.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So for people who don't know

who this person is,

we did a whole series with

her this off season, live from Bali.

And now she's back in, are you in Alberta?

Yeah.

Alberta.

Look at me and my Canadian geography.

Wow.

I'm proud of you.

So you are our third Canadian today.

We are ripping it up through

the Canadian Northwest.

We started with Emily Rolfe,

went to Gabby Spenst,

finishing with Hattie Cano,

and we had a little Texas

flavor in the middle with

Tristan Patrick.

For those of you who don't know,

Hattie and Tristan are coach and athlete,

and Hattie's actually also

a coach with Ascend.

And so it's cool that we

have them kind of on back to back.

What's really crazy is as

soon as we got off the air with Tristan,

like literally the second we got done,

they announced the individual workouts,

all of them.

I just saw that, too,

because I just got out of yoga,

and I was just scrolling a little bit,

waiting to get on here.

And then, yeah,

I saw it pop up on my Instagram.

I was like, what?

All of them are out?

And I sent Tristan a video

right away being like, boy,

these are awesome events.

So you're pumped?

Yeah, I'm pumped.

I think they'll be really good.

So you are...

you're solid gymnast gymnast, right?

Like that's your, you coach gymnastics.

You're really good at that part.

Um,

not having a one rep max make you happy.

Yeah.

I mean, I would like that as well,

but I just, I love snatching.

So the snatching is going to be awesome.

Like, and I love squat snatches.

So yeah, it's going to be sick.

I like when they do it like that,

where they go up in weight and yeah,

you have to get a bunch done.

So yeah, I'm excited.

So for people who didn't see it,

the 2016 regional workout

where they did the snatch ladder,

starting 10, going to eight, going to six,

going to four, going to two.

Is that where you entered?

You go to one.

Yeah.

I think it's two, two at one 75.

Yeah.

And they redid it at the

West coast classic in 2021 when it was,

when not all the semifinals

were the same.

Okay.

I didn't even know that.

Yeah.

West coast classic that,

that year brought back all

of their workouts were redos.

Oh yeah.

Yeah.

I do remember that.

And that actually was a very,

very exciting event, the snatch ladder.

It came down to, I think,

Danny Spiegel and Danielle

Brandon at the end of it at

the West Coast Classic.

They both went over the bar

at the same time,

and it was a time chip finish.

Oh, I love it.

That's why I love stuff like this, right?

Because you can be neck and neck,

and then it comes down to that.

those last bars you got to

be on it right oh and you

got to be able to get the

bar down settled and over

in a quick amount of time

yeah and with the ladder

it's you got to do that

five times yeah I hope

they're gonna have you

think they'll have all the

bars set out right like a

ladder yeah yeah

And I like that you have to get 10 done,

then eight done, like not just like one,

one, one, one, one.

Cause that's like a little

more stressful where you

have to go one list, try to jump over it,

get to the next bar.

Right?

Like at least you like have

a little bit of time at one

bar and then get to the next bar,

have a little bit of time

at the next bar and so on.

Yeah.

It's,

it's funny because some people try to

touch and go.

some people didn't and just

knew that they were going to murder the,

the end of it.

Right.

Right.

And so like,

it was really cool just to

different strategies and

how it all played out.

And you have to watch that.

Cause that is the hard part

about it is like, you can, you can say,

Oh, I can touch and go that, that way,

you know, easy.

But like even last year,

Kelly and I were like, Oh,

do we touch and go those snatch?

You know how it was like the

snatch into the run and,

And we're like, no,

I'm really good at singles,

like fast singles.

But then when the East went,

we saw everyone went touch and go.

And we're like, well,

I guess we're doing touch and go.

Right.

Because it's like,

I guess you kind of got to.

And plus,

it does minimize accidentally

like grabbing it wrong or whatever.

So I understand that.

But I was like, oh, because in practice,

I did it just as fast.

doing singles as touch and

go but again like you could

accidentally drop or grab

it wrong or whatever so in

the end we're like yeah we

should probably do touch

and go so the one the one

vivid memory I have from

that ladder as well is tola

was going individual that

year and he gets to the end

and he tried to touch and

go the last two at the

heaviest weight and he missed it

No.

I believe someone passed him

at the very last second

because he tried to touch and go.

If he would have just

dropped it and picked it up

and hit it again,

he would have won easily.

Yeah,

but sometimes you just got to go for it,

right?

It's like

It's so hard to know sometimes.

I mean,

once you understand yourself more

and more as an athlete,

I feel like it's a little bit easier.

But even then,

like even last year in

practice with that number two,

with like the gymnastics

one with the ring muscle up one,

I practice it and I did it all unbroken,

all the ring muscle up.

But we had practiced it.

We had practiced it with the sled pull.

So I was tired from the sled pull.

The only thing that was

different was the sleds weren't like,

we didn't know we were not

even going to be able to

budge those things.

So knowing that I should

have known that that was

going to tire out my grip

and my triceps even more.

So maybe I should have had a

plan B for that.

But I was like, ah, like,

you feel pretty good.

And then I just went for it.

And then look what happened.

And I still have PTSD from that.

I, I think Tola was going for that moment,

that crowd moment.

For sure.

Yeah.

Like let's go.

Yeah.

You know,

like I think when Rich tried to

clean and jerk 400 or like,

there's those moments where

they try to get like the

whole crowd in and they

just go for it and it,

and it doesn't always go well,

but we don't need to get

into all the workouts.

You're just happy.

You've seen them and you,

you like what you see.

Yep.

I'm happy.

Um,

So we talked all off season

about things that you were

doing to prepare yourself

for this season and that

you had like a conversation

with Tristan at the end of last season.

Like you need to get outside the gym more.

You need to flush out all that,

be in your happy place and

just to maintain your

mental health through training.

How has that gone for you

since you've been back from Bali?

It's been good.

Good.

Definitely good.

But it's like,

I'm just trying to find this

balance of not doing too

much and then doing enough,

if that makes sense.

Like, there was a point where I was like,

Oh, no, I feel like I'm not doing enough.

But also,

like Instagram came into

play a little bit with that too.

Like it's a highlight reel.

And when you see people just

busting their ass, you're like, Oh,

they're doing so much.

Like, am I doing enough?

But that's when like,

even through the whole quarterfinals,

I didn't look at Instagram.

I didn't scroll.

I did make a couple posts,

but just for the sponsors

that I'm just for them.

And other than that,

I didn't look at anybody's

stuff and it was so

refreshing and it made me

feel like clear headed.

And yeah,

And honestly, yeah,

I'm just happy where I'm at.

And I've been doing walks, you know,

like I've been going on walks.

I've been being in whatever,

even if I'm not able to get

to the mountains.

Yes,

I've been doing like more of just like

what makes me happy.

So I think that that's just

been huge this year.

And, you know, not just having,

it just helps me not have

so much stress on myself.

And I think it's funny you

bring up Instagram, right?

I think the penalties showed us

that you can show the world your best reps,

and that's not necessarily the truth.

Yeah.

Right?

Yeah.

That became very evident

during penalty week.

And I'm not going to name the person,

but someone was penalized.

They put out one rep of their workout.

That was good?

That was good.

They put out the email they

got from CrossFit.

CrossFit says in the email, Rep 6,

if you want to go back and look,

was a rep that is what

we're trying to see.

And when you go back and

listen to the post of the rep,

you can hear the judge go, 6?

So that's the one CrossFit

said you did really well,

and that's what you're posting to say,

see, I did great.

And that's the one that you're showing.

Yeah.

yeah that's what exactly

it's a highlight reel and I

i just that's funny you say

that because today I saw

someone's post I can't

remember who it was and it

was like all like a couple

or maybe like one good rep

and it was like the last

rep and I was like that's a

great rep but like again

we're just showing the good

rep right and I like when

you and tristan I like when

you said to tristan

Like,

why aren't these people showing their

full videos then?

You know, like, let's see the video then.

So then we can see, you know, like,

I want to believe you,

but I want to also see the rest.

Because I got a penalty too.

And I know for a fact, like,

I know for a fact that

there was maybe like one or two that

maybe were soft, but it was, you know,

like when you get tired

with that movement,

you're standing on the box

and your head is down

because you don't want to biff it.

But I had my boss and Amanda

both coached me on, I had, I did,

I redid that one twice or I

redid that one once.

And both people were like, look up,

look up the whole time.

They re like,

they care about where I'm going.

You know, they want to see me at the game.

So that's my other thing was like,

getting judges to come from

wherever they don't know me

they don't I feel like

they're not gonna yell at

me like my my best friend

who wants me in the entire

world to get to the games

you know what I mean they

both were hard asses on me

they were like look up open

up your hips locked out or

whatever you know like I

knew they were yelling at

me the whole workout and

I'd be like yeah okay crap

at the top of the box okay

yeah like you know well you

got a penalty but it was not a major

No, it was, I got one point taken off,

which was great.

And yeah,

like I'm really grateful for that,

but I also know that I move well as well.

But I mean,

I'm not saying that the people

that got major don't move

well and they didn't, maybe they,

all their reps were good.

I don't know.

Right.

Like we're not seeing the videos come out.

So I have no idea.

And I'm not asking you to say it,

but I will say if I was

caught doing something wrong and

and I had a video evidence

that I did it right,

the first thing I would do

would plead my case showing

the video that shows me doing it right.

Yeah, for sure.

If I'm in a court of law and

someone says I stole

something and I have a

video showing me off in the corner,

nowhere near the item that was stolen,

I'm showing the video.

Yep.

I think so too.

That's my little soapbox for the night.

We're getting heated over here.

It is going well.

You're taking walks.

You're getting outside the gym,

getting off social media

during events to kind of

have the right people in

your ear is what you're doing.

Yeah.

So...

You go into quarterfinals.

You place better than you've

ever placed going into semis.

Right?

How do you then... Now

you're hearing the penalty stuff.

How long did it take for you

to get validated on those

first two workouts?

It took...

I don't know.

It was all a blur, man.

But obviously like I got the one,

the one penalty.

And then it says,

once you get that penalty,

it's validated.

So that was good.

And then number two,

what was the number two?

Oh, that gross one.

It took a while.

And that's why I was like, Oh my gosh,

let's get going.

But, um, yeah, I don't know.

I think it was all a blur.

The whole thing took way too

long because obviously, you know,

I messaged you about four,

putting in my score wrong.

So the thing was,

once they changed that score,

it said modified.

So it's purple.

It says modified.

But then it also says

this... We can still review this.

And if you have penalties,

we can still put penalties on this.

So I had a whole...

little thing written

underneath then one and two

get submitted and I get the

little modified on my

number one right from the

one penalty but that one

just said modified there

wasn't a little writing

underneath of it right so

when I'm waiting for three

and four to get done I'm

sitting there just like oh

what's like I don't know if

I'm validated or not

because this one is staying purple and

and modified the whole time.

And it's still like that.

So I had to wait until the very last,

until the next day when

they had posted leaderboard

is good because I, you know,

they weren't changing it.

So it was actually a little bit of a mind.

How much,

how much weight was lifted off

your shoulder when the

leaderboard closed?

Oh,

so much instantly messaged my like Jake.

tristan amanda I'm like

let's go we're going to

semis we're going to

universal studios after

semis priorities right oh

yeah so so you've been

you've been at this for a

little bit of time you're

you're going into semis in

the best position you've

ever done before you're

going in in six in the sixth spot

You're starting the weekend

in that heat with all the big dogs.

How much confidence does that give you?

I mean, it gives me,

it definitely gives me some

confidence because even if

there wasn't penalties,

I was still in ninth, you know,

and like I still am in that top 10.

So it's not like just

because of the penalties,

like I moved up.

so much you know what I mean

so like I'm still like

that's what really gave me

more confidence as being

like even if I was still

ninth I'm still top 10 and

like I'm just so proud of

myself for that you know

like yeah I redid a couple

and I think I think I'm

learning a lot as an

athlete this year because

we did like better

strategies and I've never

really been like a strategy

person I've literally just

been like let's go in and

see what happens

and just do the fitness you

know and I kind of played

around with strategies this

time and like it went

really well I felt like

Brent Fikowski like I felt

like I needed to put on

some little glasses and be

like wow science like

what's going on over here

you know but yeah it just

felt really good to be able

to do that and I yeah I

have a lot of confidence

going in but obviously like

it doesn't mean that I'm

going to make the games.

I just, I'm so like,

I'm just confident in

myself and I've never been

able to really say that about myself.

I mean, you know that over time,

like I lacked confidence a lot and yeah,

it's just,

it's really nice to feel that

about myself, you know?

So how long have you been with Tristan?

I mean, obviously over a year.

Yeah.

It's been just, just over,

A year, I want to say.

So last season, was it right after TFX?

You were part of the group

that jumped in right after TFX?

I want to say so, yeah.

I might have been in a

little bit before because I

remember Kelly going to TFX

and winning it.

Okay.

But you hadn't been with them a ton.

No.

I was working for them first.

And then I decided because

they had mentioned, hey,

you can do our programming if you want.

And I was kind of like in la la land,

just had broke up with my other coach.

And then Jake was programming for me.

And then, yeah,

I was kind of just like up in the air,

like, oh,

should Jake still program for me?

He has to go firefighting.

Like, it's not going to be like, you know,

he has a lot on his plate.

And so then I was like, hey, yeah,

why not?

Let's try it.

So you weren't with him a

lot at that point through last season.

And there has to be some

athlete coach trust.

Is your trust in Tristan this year?

Because he is a very strategy heavy coach.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And that's a development

that you've gotten over the last year.

How much has your trust in

him grown to be able to

talk it out and come up

with those strategies?

Yeah, it's grown a lot.

I mean, I feel like going into it,

I'm just like a very,

I like trust people until...

they show me otherwise so

I've always like put that

trust in him but it's even

it's grown so much that

even the fact that like we

learned so much from last

year and he even said those

things before they came out

of my mouth and so then

that just you know pushed

that trust even more that I

was like okay he is seeing

what I need as an athlete

and he's understanding what

I need as an athlete like

you can only know that by

learning right so I mean

whatever,

even if we made mistakes along the way,

he's,

he's seen everything and he knows

all the things that I need.

So the trust just builds

every time that he brings

up something like, Oh, Hey,

we need to do this because

I saw this in you or whatever.

Right.

So it's like, it's always growing,

but it's definitely built

so much since we started.

But again, like I've,

I put all my trust in him

and it's only been growing since then.

So yeah, I'm just so grateful for him.

So just to catch up on a couple chats,

Kenneth is like Super Mario Land?

Yeah.

Me, Jake, and then our best friends,

Amanda and Mikey,

we're going to Super Mario Land.

We all play Super Mario,

so we're just so excited.

And Harry Potter Land.

Wad Zombie,

excited to see Hattie and Carson.

So now you're going to Texas

like next week?

Yeah, on Sunday.

So you're going to get a

week with your coach.

How important is that to get

that time going into semis?

Yeah, it's super important.

And I think even just for...

again,

like my confidence and just being

there with everybody,

it's definitely going to be amazing.

I mean,

I had such an amazing time living

there last year.

Um,

and it was just good for him to see me

and again,

like build that trust in person.

So it's just,

it's going to be huge for him

to be able to like actually

see me train rather than

send videos or whatever.

Right.

Or just like the type,

the texting that I send him

every day on how workouts went.

Right.

Because he even said,

I need to see your body

language when you're working out.

And I don't really think of

that until he said that.

And he actually just said that today.

And I was like, oh, yeah.

Because you can tell him one

thing that you're feeling one way.

But if he's seeing it firsthand,

then he'll learn a little

bit more every time he sees

me do a workout, right?

Yeah.

Yeah.

So you're going to spend a

week there and then you'll,

you'll be able to take all this,

the little things you learn

there and take it back for

a couple of weeks before semi-start.

Yeah.

Um, I got some advice for you here too.

Um, the lines will be atrocious.

Um,

you have to reserve time slots at Mario.

So we're thinking about getting the VIP.

My friend was actually just

telling me it's a lot,

but we're thinking of doing

it because you get valet parking,

you get breakfast, you get lunch.

They take you to the Harry

Potter shop and give you free wands.

Wow.

I used to be a Disney guy

and we went a bunch when my

daughter was small.

And we did all that stuff.

We did all the VIP just to

make the experience easier on us.

But Wads Army says it would be worth it.

Yeah.

I think so too.

Okay.

So it's been your goal all

along to make the games.

You do this to make the games.

Yes.

Is this the best year you

feel ready for that?

I mean, I want to say yes,

but it's also like,

I thought last year was

there was a bird on my car.

I thought last year was that year.

I thought picking up my life

and moving it was that year

because I was so fit last year.

But I think mentally, yes, for sure.

Physically,

I think we're making our way up for sure.

Like it's hard to kind of tell when.

I don't know.

I do feel just as fit physically,

but mentally, yes,

I feel I feel so much more

like relaxed this year.

Last year I interviewed you

day two at semis.

Yeah.

And you said to me after day one, you,

you had like a talk with

yourself that you weren't being Hattie.

Yeah.

You, you had gotten out of your own,

what your own comfort level was,

what you needed to be and

tried to be something else.

Do you have the tools now

and are you equipped to use

them if you feel yourself

going down a bad path?

Yeah, I think so.

And a lot of that is just like, honestly,

my best friend Amanda has been really,

really amazing for that.

Cause she can see it in me a

lot of the times and feel

like put me in check.

And so I think,

and then Jake also has been

really good in that sense too,

where he's just like,

even with the social media stuff,

he's like, you don't need that.

Cause it just like brings you down.

Right.

And it does.

And like,

I'm trying to switch that in the

sense of like,

if I see someone else working harder,

I'm trying to change my mindset in,

in the sense of I'm so

proud of that person.

Like that person is so amazing.

And that's great that

they're doing that rather

than let it get me down in

the sense of being like, Oh no,

am I working hard enough?

You know, like

thinking I'm not doing

enough being like that

person is doing great right

and just switching it into

a more positive mindset so

that's why I say like my

mindset is a lot stronger I

would say because yes I am

just focusing on what I

need more this year and so

I think I I would say yes I

have the tools um obviously

like we'll see when semis

comes because something

crazy could happen and

Of course, it's going to get you down,

but it's about getting back up.

You know what I mean?

It's how hard you can get up,

how fast you can get up and

move on and learn for the next event.

Yeah.

It's funny.

What's the saying?

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Yeah, it really is.

And, um, you know,

I was talking to Gabby and

like two hours ago,

whatever it says now it's all blur today.

And she was saying a water Palooza,

like she's walking through

vendor village and like,

it's not her face on the

posters and you know,

like it's not even social media.

It's, it's,

it comes at you from all

different angles.

Oh yeah.

Um, it's crazy because

even if you are the happiest,

most positive person,

it's stuff like that.

That could be like, Oh crap.

Like I'm working hard too.

Like this is so dumb,

but I listened to the

Savant podcast a lot.

And like,

they were talking about how all

the penalties,

there's not going to be all

these great people going to semis.

And then they're like, Oh,

it's just going to be a

bunch of these nobodies.

And to me, I'm like, you know what?

That's for one.

That's, I don't know.

That's so crazy to say because like,

the people that they are like, loving,

they once didn't really

have a name either, you know, so like,

maybe they'll love these

new faces that are coming up, you know.

And so it's crazy to say that.

But then in my aspect, I was like,

you know what, don't let that get to you.

Because who cares?

Right?

I need to just go out and do

my best and have fun.

And if I have a great

team with me you know like

I'm here talking to you I

love you I'm you know my

best friend is coming with

me my boyfriend is coming

with me those people matter

and it's not this you know

these podcasts or what

these other people are

saying around you you know

like all those little

freaking voices coming at

you being like ah you're

this you're this you know

it's just none of that matters

So Kenneth says you got some

love and shout outs in the

comments during that Sevan segment.

Oh, thanks.

He did say my bar muscle ups

were good on the last one that I watched.

And I was like, thanks Sevan.

But then Hiller shut it down by saying,

I'm not making it to the game.

So here's,

I'm going to give you some facts, right?

And this happens all the time in sport.

And all this noise comes out

that there's all these penalties.

And oh my gosh,

the sky is falling and

we're losing all the good

athletes and blah, blah, blah.

Yeah.

And I said this yesterday on

Coffee Pods and Wads.

I was on their game show.

At the end of the day,

after all the dust settled,

we lost five former games athletes.

Yeah.

Only one finished in the top 10.

One, their highest finish was 15th.

Two never made a cut,

and one hasn't been there since 2020.

So really, at the end of the day,

what did we lose?

If Paige Powers isn't one of the people,

nobody cares.

Yeah.

That's it.

Yeah.

And so all these people are

like up in arms, oh my gosh,

the sky is falling.

It didn't fall.

The people that move well got through.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah, I agree.

I mean, it is what it is.

I think the online

competition is just like a

little bit skewed and kind

of hard to do anyway.

But I mean, we have to,

we just have to deal with what,

what we're given and

honestly we all complained

about not being hard enough

and then the second they're

hard then we complain again

I'm just like no it's

called they're trying to

listen to us and actually

do the thing I mean I get

that it's tough but like I

just I'm over the

complaining and I'm ready

to just go have some fun on

the on the floor so okay so

on the floor we're back to the floor

You're going to start the

weekend in the last heat.

You're going to look down

the line and there's Ariel

Loewen and Alex Kazan and Emily Rolfe,

you know,

multiple time CrossFit Games competitors.

How does Hattie stay in her lane?

That's tough.

I got to stay in my lane by...

by realizing that I deserve to be there.

And my motto lately is that

I am capable because I am, you know,

and I am enough and I am capable.

Again,

it doesn't matter what the noises

are happening around me.

I'm with these girls and

I've been with them for a few years now.

So obviously like I can do the thing.

And honestly,

like the mindset part of it

is the most crucial part.

So I just need to get out

there and be grateful where

I am and just do the thing

that I know best.

And that's just, you know,

getting a little dark maybe on the,

on the fitness floor, but you know,

having a straight head and yeah,

doing the best that I can do out there.

Is it going to be tough to

keep the blinders on?

I think so.

Like even last year,

it was like the very last event.

I remember Bailey Rail was

right beside me and it was

the Echo Bike Toast Bar Sandbag.

And like right away, I was like, OK, yeah,

in my own lane, whatever.

But on the Echo Bike,

she was just freaking going, man.

And I was at like 70 RPM.

she was like,

we were both pretty well the

same on the same or on the

first round and then toes to bar,

whatever.

That's when we got back to the bike,

she held the pace every time.

And that's where I kind of

started getting down on myself.

Where's like, why can't I hold onto this?

Like,

why is she so insane on the bike over

there?

Right.

So it is hard, but I like, I learned that.

And now I need to just,

especially when it comes to

that last event,

that's where I need to keep

my head on straight the most.

So it might be hard,

but I'm going to do my best, you know,

on keeping the blinders on

and focusing on me.

Yeah.

So Sarah Cooper says hello.

She is our resident Canadian in the chat.

And I think this is the

first time I've seen her today.

I've had three Canadians on

my show and she's just now showing up.

You're lagging behind.

You guys stick together.

Just kidding.

Just happy you're here, Sarah.

So this year,

it's going to be a unique

experience at semifinals.

You're going to be in Carson,

the epic tennis stadium.

It's been around forever.

You're going to be out there

on the floor that was...

that all those great

athletes were in the past

and you're going to get a

uniform this year.

Like that's pretty cool.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I think I thought that was

really cool that they're doing that.

Um, am I going to wear it?

I'm not sure yet.

We'll see.

We'll see how it looks with my fleo.

Well, whether you wear it or not,

it's a memento for sure.

Yeah.

It shows like you made this

accomplishment.

Yeah.

Um, wad zombie said, uh,

Sarah was probably too busy

shoveling her driveway or something.

Cause wad zombie thinks like

it's always snowing in Canada.

I mean, it pretty much is right now.

It's raining right now,

but it was snowing this morning.

So stupid.

Uh, Sarah's where Sarah's at.

It's actually beautiful and sunny.

So I think she's like

central Canada today.

Oh, wad zombie.

Yeah.

Where are you?

Central Canada.

i don't know so um so yeah I

think like it's not easy

making semifinals and I

think it's cool that for

once it that she uh that

you all get a memento for

making it like a jersey

with your name on it yeah I

think so too I think it'll be really cool

And I love that it's in

Carson because I never went

to go watch the games or anything.

So I think it'll be really

cool to go back there or go, go there,

I guess.

Yeah.

I've, I've,

I've been a junkie since 2012

and I've never been.

Okay.

Damn.

Yeah.

Why not?

Just didn't make it work.

Um,

I don't know.

I don't, I,

I'd never been to California

until last year.

Oh, okay.

So like,

I don't know if it just is like

the West coast was just

seems so far away to me as.

Yeah.

Um, or what?

And California just, you know,

every time I would look,

it was so expensive.

Like to get a room, to get a flight,

all that kind of stuff just

seemed really hard.

But Sarah Cooper is actually in Vancouver.

Oh, nice.

That's beside me.

Yeah.

So not the central.

She's all the way out west.

Yeah.

I love BC.

You're in BC?

I'm in Alberta, but I love BC.

Okay.

Yeah.

Okay.

I thought I was up on the

Canadian geography.

Now I'm gone.

British Columbia, British Columbia,

then Alberta.

And then the rest is history.

Those are the only two that count.

No, I'm just kidding.

Gotcha.

Okay.

So like Alberta is like Calgary.

Yeah.

That's right.

And then Vancouver is British Columbia.

Yeah.

Okay.

So, okay.

I know the big cities.

Yeah.

Olympic place.

Yep.

Exactly.

The TV shows from Hallmark are filmed.

okay didn't know that um and

sarah says yeah no one

cares about the rest no uh

so I want to be in I want

to be in carson this year I

just don't know yet I've

not been approved for media

credentials um yeah what is

up with that it it's

I haven't said it publicly on the air,

but CrossFit gave their

approval process to the event organizers.

So instead of getting

approval from CrossFit,

I have to get it from Loud and Live.

And I have to get it from

the 12 Labors crew for Knoxville.

And they're running independently,

so I've seen nothing from anybody.

Not even an answer of like, hey,

we'll get back to you.

Yeah, I've seen the, hey,

we'll get back to you.

And then, oh, hey,

we're passing it off on the

event organizers.

Okay.

Well, I'm crossing my fingers for you.

Oh, this year's also been, the preface was,

hey,

we're not going to have as many as we

used to.

So don't assume because you

got them in the past,

you're going to get them now.

No, so don't hold your breath.

It's like, come on.

But I have really good

reputation with CrossFit.

yeah it's just if they were

the ones making the

decision I'd be pretty

confident yeah check yeah

well I'm crossing my

fingers I'm live at

waterpalooza one year you

what I had a run-in with

the loud and live

communications person oh um

in waterpalooza one year so

that's why I don't know

Oh no.

I'm a really laid back guy,

but I don't like being

taken advantage of.

Oh, for sure.

That's fair.

Do I need to hold and you punch?

I lose my shit and then it just,

everything blows up.

Yeah, that's fair.

I mean,

take being taken advantage of is not fun.

And I used to be that person that was like,

Oh, okay.

Like just so oblivious.

And then I'm like,

I need to stand up for myself more.

Yeah.

Well,

Wad Zombie lives an hour from the

venue and Sarah says I can

sleep on Wad Zombie's couch.

She did not ask him for permission,

but she said I could.

Yeah, that's perfect.

I think you can too, Sarah.

Good to go.

So yeah,

I'd love to be out there to watch

you guys this year.

I think I've become such

good friends with so many

people in the West.

Like I, that's the group I really,

really want to see this year.

I hope you're out there too.

Yeah.

Realistic goal for the semis?

Are you willing to say it publicly?

Yeah, you.

I mean, the goal is always the same.

It's just getting to the games.

Well, I have a feeling.

I have a feeling.

Yeah, I do too.

the way I want to end this

is one thing that I want to

do is periodically.

You are the best at 20 questions.

Okay.

We need to,

we need to have like a periodic

20 question show.

Yeah, we do.

I'm so down.

I know we talked about it

and we did one and it was awesome.

Yeah.

It was so much fun.

Mine were all, wait,

weren't mine all like so

serious and yours are pretty fun.

I had a mixed bag.

Yeah.

I had a mixed bag.

Yours, yours,

but yours were thinking questions.

Yeah.

Mine were a little deeper.

Next time on, we'll be like pretty fun.

A wild zombie says,

what did you think about

the leaked events or did

she cover that already?

And I don't know.

They released all of them

like two hours after.

Yeah.

And where were you?

We talked about this.

No, I'm super excited for them.

I think they're going to be fun.

Honestly, the second I saw running,

I was like, yeah.

I just love running.

Is that your favorite thing in an event?

I mean, no.

I love handstand walks and bar muscle-ups,

I'd probably say, in an event.

You like handstand walks?

Sorry?

Do you like handstand walks with a row?

Yeah, I saw that.

I mean, I've been really working on my row,

so I think it'll be still a good event.

Um, yeah, we'll see about that one.

I'm no matter what, I'm excited.

I just,

I'm trying to be like not

complaining at all because

I found that there's just

so much complaining lately.

And I'm just like, you know what?

I just love everything.

I love

I love lamp.

Like I love everything right now.

I'm just excited and happy

and I don't want negativity in my life.

So I'm just, yeah.

I hate, I usually would say I hate rowing,

but I'm fricking excited for that event.

And not just because the handstand walks,

like I'm excited for the

rowing and show off like

the rowing that I've been putting on,

not saying I'm going to be

Emily Rolfe cause she's a

rowing crazy lady,

but I'm so proud of my rowing lately.

So I'm just going to do the

best that I can with that event.

Yeah.

It's nice that it's loaded

with handstand walks too.

Yeah, for sure.

Um, so yeah,

You love running.

Isn't the one like five 800s?

Yeah.

That's a lot of running.

I know.

It's crazy.

Because I saw 800 and then

whatever it's with.

And then I was like, oh, yeah.

And then I looked above it.

I'm like, oh, five rounds.

Okay.

Yeah.

So you get a lot of running in.

Yeah.

The runner is awesome.

I love the runner.

I wish I could figure it out.

It either,

I either go too slow or when I

try to pick up the speed,

I go to like supersonic.

And when you go too fast,

it's a little bit scary

where you're just like,

I think I'm going to slam onto my face.

Yeah.

Funny thing happened to me yesterday.

I was on that show with

coffee pods and wads and

Adam Klink was one of the

contestants with me and he

is like the CEO of rad now.

Okay.

I think, um,

I know he works for rad and I

think it's CEO.

Um,

I made fun of him because I actually

literally five days ago,

I went on to buy a pair of

running shoes and they were

out of stock and,

and he was talking about

how great their shoes are.

I'm like, yeah, great.

If they're in stock, like I can't.

So after the show,

he DM to me and he's hooking me up.

nice yeah you just gotta jab

them a little bit so I'm uh

I've been my goal is to get

out running again this

summer and fall um I used

to do it a lot and I I've

kind of when my back went

bad I kind of stopped but I

um I just want to go do it

again and prove to myself

that I can hell yeah it's such a

I don't know.

I really love it because I

get the runner's high a lot.

I even got the runner's high

on the rower the other day,

and I was like, damn, this feels good.

But I just love it, especially outdoors,

because you can just go

wherever you want.

On a treadmill, whatever, it's okay.

But yeah,

it feels empowering when you can

just take your body wherever you want.

Lynn Najiri says,

and the spicy bike muscle-up lunge.

Yeah, that one will be sick, too.

I'm interested to know what

the dumbbell is going to be though.

Like overhead or can we put

it on our neck?

Can we put it on the side?

Like, well, it's, it's two.

Oh yeah.

Cause I haven't looked at the, it is two.

It's two.

Like Chris and I talked after Tristan,

I talked after we got off,

we looked at it.

It's two, but it doesn't, um,

it doesn't say how it's too

heavy to go overhead.

Yeah.

Cause even like Jacob,

who is really strong would

struggle with that overhead.

Oh, for sure.

Okay.

So it's either like farmer

carry or he said, maybe front rack.

Yeah.

Like if you could sit it,

I don't usually like sitting it on here,

but with the seventies,

it might be worth doing that.

Yeah.

He thinks it's going to be farmer carry.

So you're going to wing them for momentum.

Almost.

That's going to be great.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That'll be cool.

You know,

they love those lunges to finish

an event.

Yeah.

We had that in Atlas games

and that was super fun.

Look at me.

Look at me go.

I'm like after four shows today,

I still pronounced Lynn's

second name correctly.

You're the first person to ever say, oh,

that's awesome.

Yeah.

No GORUCK-based events at semis so far.

Yeah.

They're not a presenting

sponsor of the semis.

No, it's just the games, right?

Right.

The games are being

sponsored by the clothing

company that's doing the uniforms.

That's what I was wondering.

Cause I was like,

how is go rock going to

have the clothes like

sports bras and they do.

Yeah.

They just signed Tia to me today too.

Yeah.

I saw that.

So, and Emily's been with them since,

and we followed her through last season.

Like she talked about how

she has been giving them,

they've allowed her to give

input into the women's attire,

women's clothing.

Okay.

Um, so, uh, they,

but her biggest thing now is like,

go rock doesn't have colors.

And she's like,

you need to have at least

pink and some other stuff.

So, so go rock is doing the clothes then.

Correct.

For the game.

That's crazy.

Cause do they even have any clothes?

I know they have shoes, right?

They do.

They have a lot of clothes.

So Emily wore them at semis last year.

Okay.

Yeah.

yeah nice yeah I think it

was a like like anything in

crossfit you say let's do

it and then figure out how

to after you've committed

yeah like well we'll figure

it out yeah um and lynn

northern spirit is the one

making the they're the

presenting sponsor of the

semifinals doing all the group forms

So they're the main sponsor of semis.

And their stuff doesn't look bad.

I think the uniforms look cool.

Yeah, I think they look all right.

Even if you never put it on

and just put it in a frame like, hey,

I made it here.

It's got their name on it, right?

I know.

I was thinking about that

because I just saw my

friend who's been to the game.

She put one of her jerseys in a frame.

I was like, that's pretty cool.

I mean, you got a couple back there,

right?

Yeah.

Yeah.

So the only games,

I have two games jerseys.

Um, Christy who owns my gym,

Christy Aramo O'Connell,

that's the yellow one you can barely see.

And then I, Cheryl Nassau,

my nutrition coach,

she has the Jersey for me.

Um,

and then Emily and Sydney's are water

Palooza jerseys.

Oh, nice.

Oh yeah.

I can see the little water Palooza.

so yeah that's cool uh sarah

asks I wonder how many

people will wear them

probably no one who is

sponsored I would agree

with that statement yeah

yeah if you're they're not

paying you money your

sponsor is and you're gonna

fulfill your obligations

with them yeah 100 you have to

Yeah.

I mean,

I know like thick boys are sponsor.

Now,

if I was going to semis as a media person,

I'm going to wear a thick

boy the entire weekend.

Yeah.

You're going to have it on

somewhere at least.

Right.

Right.

Cause you, cause in the corral,

I want his gear to be seen.

Okay.

What is thick boy though?

Cause I did see that you got

this new sponsor, but so they're a, uh,

an apparel company.

Okay, cool.

yeah so they made these

shirts hey it's got the

logo but we have a new logo

too it's a it's a horse

with a barbell um oh yeah

that's awesome they're

gonna start carrying that

merch in on their website

oh amazing yeah so we're

super it's the one down in

the bottom corner oh yeah

okay oh I love that is that

on his back the barbell

It's on his back, yeah.

Yeah, that's sick.

To be honest,

that's my strongest thing in

CrossFit is I can back squat a house.

Nice.

So that's that.

So that's fitting.

Yeah.

Even after my back surgery,

I got back up to 450.

Damn.

Nice.

And I'm in my 50s,

so I take that as a win.

Oh, hell yeah.

That's a huge win.

I love that.

Um, Sarah says,

hopefully they signed and give away,

give the jerseys away or something.

I think people are going to

keep them as mementos or do just that.

Yeah, I think so too.

Probably some of the games

people will probably sign

and give them away.

I bet.

Yeah.

I've seen a lot of athletes, even like,

say a Reebok athlete is at

the games and nobles, the sponsor,

they would sign their noble stuff.

Cause they're not going to

wear it around because of

the sponsorship deal.

Right.

So they'd sign it off for

different things and such.

So, yeah.

I know like Christy,

when Reebok was the

presenting sponsor and she

was a noble athlete,

she would literally come

into the gym with a box

full of stuff and let the

people at the gym take what they wanted.

Oh, that's amazing.

Oh, that would be nice.

I'll take this and this and this.

Yeah.

None of it ever fit me.

Just so you know.

No, no, no.

She's a cute little pink shorts.

Yeah, she's half my height and much,

much smaller.

But, well, we've kept you on.

I've really been trying to

keep these to 30 minutes,

and here we are at 54.

I mean, we just love chatting, so.

Yeah.

Where does the time go, you know,

when you're having fun?

I know.

I know.

Well, this is the last one of the day.

Thank you for finishing us strong.

Of course.

It was fun,

and we'll definitely have to

get together for some 20 questions.

I love that idea.

Maybe when you're not so busy.

I think we should do a games edition.

Okay.

Some aspects of the game, some not,

some...

You know, they're in Texas, like,

like Texas food questions,

stuff like that,

all based around like this year's games,

20 questions,

let the audience play along and, uh,

and see what happens.

Okay.

Well, definitely brainstorm.

Yeah.

And you'll have to kind of

get me a little bit ready

for it because if it's about,

I don't know,

I don't know a lot of stuff sometimes.

It's all good.

We'll figure it out.

Well, with that,

thank you everybody for

joining us tonight.

Thank you for joining all day.

You guys are the best.

Got the best chat in the business.

We will see everybody next

time on the Clydesdale

Media Semi-Finalist Series.

Bye, guys.
